A Delhi Police inspector and a constable sustained injuries after allegedly being attacked by a man and his son in the Jamia Nagar area of southeast Delhi. Both suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
On Saturday night, Inspector Narpal Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jamia Nagar police station, was conducting night patrols with his team when the incident occurred.
Around 8:45 pm, while patrolling near Batla House, the officers noticed a Royal Enfield motorcycle traveling from Kabristan Chowk toward Zakir Nagar market, creating a significant noise disturbance. Following protocol, SHO Singh directed his team to stop the motorcycle for inspection.
"At about 8.45 pm, when the SHO along with the patrolling staff reached Batla House in Jamia Nagar, he noticed a Royal Enfield motorcycle, heading from Kabristan Chowk towards Zakir Nagar market, creating loud noise," informed a senior police officer.
The SHO directed his team to halt the motorcycle for inspection. Upon examination, it was revealed that the motorcycle's silencer had been illegally modified, resulting in noise levels exceeding permissible limits, thus violating the Motor Vehicles Act. Consequently, SHO Singh ordered his staff to initiate legal action against the rider, identified as 24-year-old Asif.
Meanwhile, Asif called his father, Riyazuddin, to the scene who allegedly attempted to forcibly reclaim the motorcycle, demanding the police settle the matter. During this confrontation, he threatened SHO Singh with dire consequences.
This escalated into an altercation, during which Riyazuddin allegedly grabbed hold of the SHO, while Asif struck him near the eye, inflicting injury. They also assaulted Constable Ramkesh and other officers present at the scene, according to the police.
An officer stated, "We have filed an FIR against Asif and his father for obstructing public servants in the performance of their duties and physically assaulting the SHO and other police personnel."
Following this, an FIR was registered against Asif and Riyazuddin for obstructing public servants in the performance of their duties and physically assaulting police officers. Both individuals have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
