The Axis My India exit poll released on Thursday evening has predicted victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party while Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party is seen trailing behind. The predictions are in line with what most pollsters had predicted on Thursday.
As per Axis My India, the BJP is likely to mop up 45-55 seats with a vote share of 48 percent. The AAP, on the other hand, is seen trailing with 15-25 seats and a vote share of 42 percent. The Congress, on the other hand, is predicted to end up with 0-1 seats with a vote share of 7 percent.
The projections suggest a comeback for the BJP after a hiatus of 26 years and end of the road for the AAP’s decade-long rule in the capital. Both AAP and BJP had lined a slew of welfare measures to woo voters ahead of elections. However, the BJP added a layer through its constant attacks against the ruling government on the issue of corruption, administrative mismanagement and a crumbling civic infrastructure.

The AAP had countered the attack by claiming that the BJP, livid with its inability to come to power in Delhi, was indulging in the politics of vengeance against AAP and its leadership.
As per the exit poll data, the BJP appears to have gained maximum support of 52 percent from senior citizens (61 and above) while the support for the AAP was the highest (47 percent) in the 26-35 age group.
A caste-wise breakup of the data shows Brahmins (66%), Rajputs (61%), Jats (63%) and OBCs (58%) overwhelmingly supporting the BJP while the AAP garnered a staggering 74 pecent of Muslim votes and a majority of the Balmiki (53%), Jatav (60%), SC (51%) and Sikh (69%) votes.
Significantly, women who formed a decisive factor in AAP’s victories in 2015 and 2020, appear to have backed the BJP in larger numbers this time. As per the exit poll data, BJP has bagged 46 percent female votes as compared to 44 percent for AAP. In terms of male voters, the BJP bagged 50 percent votes while AAP bagged 40 percent of those votes. The Congress, on the other hand, has managed to garner only 7 percent of the male and women votes.
However, exit polls are just estimates and do not necessarily reflect the exact choice of voters. The final results will be declared by the Election Commission of India on Saturday, February 8.
