The Bombay High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the Enforcement Directorate for initiating a money laundering case with malicious intent against a Mumbai real estate developer.

The Palestinian health ministry reported that at least seven Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military raid on the West Bank city of Jenin, an increase from the previously reported six. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt Gen Herzi Halevi informed Defense Minister Israel Katz of his decision to resign on March 6, citing his responsibility for the failure of the IDF during the October 7 Hamas attack. Israeli media reports in his statement he says he will “transfer command of the IDF in a high-quality and thorough manner to my replacement” and will spend the time up until his resignation overseeing investigations into the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack. He also noted that he leaves at a time when the IDF has achieved significant milestones and is working on an agreement to release hostages.

The Islamist organization Hamas has issued a call for intensified resistance from Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. This plea is a direct response to a recent Israeli military offensive conducted in the city of Jenin, known for its frequent clashes.

Turkey's interior minister says a fire that broke out at a hotel at a popular ski resort has killed at least 66 people. Ali Yerlikaya said at least 51 other people were injured in the disaster early Tuesday.

"We are in deep pain. We have unfortunately lost 66 lives in the fire that broke out at this hotel," Yerlikaya told reporters after inspecting the site.

Dubai-based Danube Properties on Tuesday said it expects to sell homes worth over $3 billion during this year, of which around 25 per cent will be contributed by Indian customers.

Danube Properties on Tuesday opened its office at Gurugram to market properties in India. The new office, its sixth in India, was launched by Bollywood actor Malaika Arora.

"We sold properties (worth) around $3 billion last year. In 2025, we are expecting to achieve sale bookings to remain flat or marginal 5 per cent growth," Danube Properties Founder and Chairman Rizwan Sajan told PTI.

The administration of universities should be under the full control of state governments, which provide necessary infrastructure, and also the power to appoint its chancellors should vest with chief ministers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Tuesday.

In a veiled attack on the Centre and Governor, who is the chancellor of state-run universities, Stalin said the legal battle to restore the state's education rights would continue.

Tamil Nadu accounts for 20 universities spread across the state and the posts of Vice-Chancellors in some universities are lying vacant. The ruling DMK dispensation has been involved in a tussle with the Governor over the appointment of VCs.

Fire at Turkish ski resort has killed 66 people, interior minister says.

A case has been registered against BJP MLA Munirathna and six others for allegedly demolishing the houses of daily wage labourers in a slum area in Peenya, police said on Tuesday.

The case was registered at the RMC Yard police station on Monday based on a complaint filed by one of the residents, they said.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Munirathna and his associates arrived with a JCB machine and demolished the homes of around 60 families residing near Akkamahadevi Layout, next to Government First Grade College in Peenya, without prior notice.

Four criminals, including Mustafa Kagga gang member Arshad, were killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in the Jhinjhana area of Shamli district. Three others, identified as Manjeet, Satish, and one unidentified accomplice, were also injured in the clash but later succumbed to their wounds. The Supreme Court has directed that no coercive action be taken against Congress MP and poet Imran Pratapgarhi, who is facing allegations of promoting communal disharmony through a video posted on his social media. The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi has postponed the verdict in the case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar concerning the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots. The case pertains to the murder of a father and son in the Saraswati Vihar area on November 1, 1984. The ruling is now scheduled for January 31, 2025.

A court here has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a 2022 dowry death case, a lawyer said on Tuesday. Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Namrata Agarwal on Monday also imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on the convict Wasim, reported PTI.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who underwent surgery after getting multiple stabs during a robbery attempt in his Bandra home, will be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, doctors at the Lilavati Hospital said. However, the doctors suggested that the actor needs to rest for a few more days.
