Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma will contest against AAP's Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its first list of 29 candidates for the Delhi assembly elections. The party has fielded former MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma from New Delhi, who will contest against former chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

Another former MP, Ramesh Bidhuri, has been named from Kalkaji, where chief minister and AAP candidate Atishi is contesting.

The party has fielded its national office-bearers Dushyant Kumar Gautam and Ashish Sood from Karol Bagh and Janakpuri, respectively, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar and former AAP leader Kailash Gahlot from Bijwasan.

Former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay will contest from Malviya Nagar.

The Aam Aadmi Party has held power in Delhi since 2015, achieving landslide victories in two consecutive Assembly elections. However, it has not been able to secure a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections since 2014, with the BJP sweeping all seven.

Elections in the national capital are scheduled to be held next month. The elections are widely regarded as a closely contested face-off between the BJP and AAP.

AAP, meanwhile, has already released the names of all the candidates who will be contesting in the Assembly polls.
