Delhi cafe owner Puneet Khurana’s last video alleges ‘extreme torture from wife, in-laws’: ‘I don’t have the capacity…’

Puneet Khurana, the 40-year-old cafe owner from Delhi who died by suicide, alleged that his wife Manika Pahwa and her parents subjected him to severe mental and emotional distress through unreasonable demands which made him take the extreme step. Before taking his own life on Tuesday, Puneet, a resident of Model Town in New Delhi, reportedly recorded a series of videos where he detailed his accusations.

According to the police, Khurana died by hanging himself in his house. The family of the deceased claimed that Puneet was upset with his wife amid their ongoing divorce case.

Khurana, in the videos, described how the divorce proceedings, initiated through mutual consent, had escalated into a bitter conflict with his wife and her parents, NDTV reported. He accused his in-laws of imposing unreasonable financial demands, including an extra payment of Rs 10 lakh, which he stated was beyond his means.

"I am about to commit suicide because I am extremely tortured by my in-laws and my wife. We have already filed for mutual divorce on certain terms and conditions. Obviously, when it comes to mutual divorce we have signed some conditions in court. We have to fulfil those conditions within the period of 180 days. But my in-laws and my wife are pressurising me with a new set of conditions which are beyond my scope," Khurana said, according to the report.

"They are asking for another Rs 10 lakh which I don't have the capacity to pay. I cannot ask my parents as they already have paid enough," he added further.

So far, neither his wife and nor her parents have made any comments on the videos.

According to the deceased’s family, Puneet last spoke to his wife over the phone before the incident, and the conversation was about their bakery business, in which Puneet and his wife are partners.

Puneet's family alleged that during the conversation over the phone, Puneet's wife said that he couldn't separate her from the business despite the ongoing divorce case.

"Manika Pahwa, her sister and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet's social media account,” Puneet Khurana’s sister told ANI.
