Police on Saturday informed that a 40-year-old man lost his life after his motorcycle was hit by an SUV in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar area. They said the Mahindra Thar rammed into Bhikshu Lal’s two-wheeler late Friday night, killing the biker on the spot.
"The driver of the Thar fled immediately after the incident. Legal action is being taken, and multiple teams have been formed to apprehend him," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
A case has been registered at the Moti Nagar police station, and CCTV recordings will be scrutinised to trace the sequence of events and identify the culprit.
The body of the deceased has been taken to a hospital for post-mortem, and his family members have been informed, officials added.
In a similar case, a pedestrian was killed and another was distressingly injured earlier this month after a Thar mowed them down near the 11 Murti landmark in the Chanakyapuri area in the national capital.
The car was found stashed with a large quantity of drugs, including cocaine and LSD.
The accused, identified as 26-year-old Ashish Bachchas of Shakarpur in east Delhi, was nabbed on the spot after the crash. Police said he is involved in drug use and peddling, and a medical examination confirmed he was driving in a drugged state.
When police searched the Uttar Pradesh-registered SUV, they found commercial quantities of narcotics, 0.30 grams of cocaine, 2.6 grams of LSD, 23.47 grams of MD, 21.26 grams of cannabis, 4.17 grams of charas, 15.49 grams of tobacco, along with Rs 25,000 in cash and a mobile phone.
The accident took place at around 6.30 am on August 10 near Gate Number 3 of Talkatora Stadium, when the Mahindra Thar SUV rammed into the pedestrians. One of the victims was identified as Sujesh Kshetri from Sikkim, while the other victim’s identity is still unknown. Both were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
