Breaking News Live: Rajeev Chandrasekhar calls Sabarimala gold case ‘shocking’, questions safety of other temples

Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar has slammed the alleged theft of gold from the Sabarimala temple, calling it “shocking and shameless” and accusing the Devaswom Board, headed by a CPM appointee, of involvement.

“There have been many corruption cases in Kerala recently, but the gold of Sabarimala being stolen by people linked to the Devaswom Board takes corruption to an unforgivable level. Even temples are no longer safe from the corrupt,” Chandrasekhar said.

He drew historical comparisons, saying, “I have heard how Tipu Sultan and the Mughals looted temples across the country, but I never thought that in the 21st century we would see a political party implicated in the theft of 4.5 kg of gold from Sabarimala.”

Chandrasekhar further warned, “If such a thing can happen in a prominent shrine like Sabarimala, imagine the condition of smaller temples. Is the same loot going on there?”

Breaking News Live: SCOARA seeks suo motu action after lawyer attempts courtroom assault on CJI

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCOARA) has strongly condemned a lawyer’s recent act in the court of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, describing it as “unbecoming of a member of the Bar” and a threat to the mutual respect between the Bench and the Bar.

The incident occurred when a lawyer attempted to throw an object at CJI Gavai during proceedings. Security personnel intervened immediately, escorting the lawyer out and detaining him. Witnesses reported that while being removed, the lawyer shouted, “Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan.”

SCOARA expressed deep anguish over the act and urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance and initiate appropriate contempt proceedings. Breaking News Live: Another French PM falls: Sébastien Lecornu resigns after less than a month

France has just lost yet another prime minister,  and this time, after less than a month in office. Sébastien Lecornu, appointed by President Emmanuel Macron in September, handed in his resignation on Monday morning, marking the fifth prime ministerial exit under Macron in just two years.

The Elysee Palace confirmed the move, saying, “Mr Sébastien Lecornu has submitted the resignation of his Government to the President of the Republic, who has accepted it.”

Lecornu had only just unveiled his new cabinet lineup on Sunday. But the reshuffle immediately sparked backlash, seen by some as too right-wing, and by others as not right-wing enough. That discontent, combined with France’s already fractured political scene, made Lecornu’s hold on power untenable from the start.

He succeeded François Bayrou, who himself lasted just nine months in the top job after being appointed in December 2024. Lecornu’s cabinet largely mirrored Bayrou’s, a move that failed to win over either the opposition or Macron’s restless allies.
