In a sharp attack on the government, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Armed Forces were denied operational freedom during Operation Sindoor due to political interference.
He said the Centre had informed Pakistan that their military sites would remain untouched, and linked the loss of Indian aircraft to these politically imposed restrictions.
Here’s what the Congress leader said during his address:
-The Congress leader said India lost aircrafts because of constraints given by the political leadership to not attack the military and air defence infrastructure of Pakistan.
-Citing defence minister Rajnath Singh’s speech, Gandhi said the Indian forces had conveyed to Pakistan that it had no political will to continue the fight after Operation Sindoor.
-“Yesterday I watched Rajnath Singh's speech. I listen quite carefully when people speak. He said that Operation Sindoor began at 1.05 in the morning. He said that Operation Sindoor lasted 22 minutes. Then he said the most shocking thing - at 1.35, we called Pakistan and told them that we have hit non-military targets and we do not want escalation,” Rahul Gandhi said.
-“Maybe he does not understand what he revealed. The DGMO of India was told by the Govt of India to ask for a ceasefire at 1.35 at night itself on the night of Operation Sindoor...You directly told Pakistan your political will that you do not have the political will to fight, that you do not want to fight,” Rahul Gandhi said.
-“The Government of India informed the Government of Pakistan that we have no political will, we don’t want to fight. We have simply carried out this action. Surrender was demanded, an immediate surrender within 30 minutes,” he said.
-Rahul Gandhi said India did not want an escalation with Pakistan in order to protect the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “PM Modi had the blood of Pahalgam on his hands,” he said.
-He also said that post the Pahalgam terror attack, none of the countries condemned Pakistan. Rather, they only condemned terrorism.
-He also challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to call US President Donald Trump a “liar” for his ceasefire claims after Operation Sindoor.
-Rahul Gandhi said that US President Donald Trump ‘broke all protocol” by inviting Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir to lunch. “The man behind Pahalgam is Munir who is having lunch with Trump. He is sitting there and our PM is not going there,” he said.
-Rahul Gandhi said the biggest foreign policy challenge for India was to keep Pakistan and China separate, but in this conflict, Pakistan and China were “attached”, and the Chinese were feeding them critical battlefield information.
