CRPF personnel Moti Ram Jat, who was recently arrested on the charges of spying for Pakistan, was posted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and was transferred out just days before the deadly terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians, top government sources told CNN-News18.

Jat was arrested by the National Investigation Agency for allegedly passing sensitive and classified information dealing with national security to Pakistani intelligence officers in exchange for money, the report said, adding that he has been doing this since 2023.

The news channel reported that Jat was serving in the 116th battalion of CRPF as Assistant Sub-Inspector and was moved out of Pahalgam six days before the attack on April 22.

He was arrested in Delhi by NIA, who has been interrogating him. The report said that Jat has accepted receiving funds from Pakistani officials through multiple channels.

Jat has been remanded to the custody of NIA till June 6 by a special court at Patiala House.
