Congress to hold massive rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on 'SIR' issue

Congress MP KC Venugopal on Tuesday said that the Congress will hold a massive rally against the issue of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan in the first week of December.

While talking to media, Venugopal said, "Kerala Assembly passed a resolution to postpone the SIR exercise. Even the Kerala Chief Election Officer requested the CEC that this was not the right time to conduct SIR in the state. All political parties except the BJP demanded the same thing, but the Election Commission doesn't listen to anything. It is clear that they are working on behalf of the BJP and Narendra Modi. This is surprising."

"Today, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi alerted the PCCs about this sinister attempt of the Election Commission. We are going to fight against these things. The motive of the Election Commission is to destroy democracy and opposition parties. In the first week of December, Congress will hold a massive rally on this issue (SIR) in Ramlila Maidan," he added.

Congress is also running a signature campaign against 'SIR'. It will collect signatures from approximately 50 million people across the country against 'SIR'. Following this, Congress will hold a rally in Delhi in the first week of December.

The EC conducted the Bihar SIR, in which approximately 47 lakh names were deleted, before the Bihar assembly elections. The poll panel dubbed the Bihar exercise as satisfactory and has started the process of SIR of the voter list in around eight states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, where assembly elections are due in 2026.
