Congress leader Pawan Khera took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, sharing a screenshot on X that appeared to show a refund message from Air India Express and using it to question the Prime Minister’s absence from Manipur.
In his post, Khera wrote, “Even @AirIndiaX knew that the PM would not travel to Manipur. So, the ticket that I had booked - as a well-intentioned gift for the people of Manipur - was quietly cancelled, without my knowledge.”
He added, “It seems to be common wisdom now that the only thing that can compel the PM to visit a northeastern state is an upcoming election.”
The screenshot shared by him showed a message from AIX Support stating that the refund for a particular PNR had been processed on 2/14/2026 and credited to the travel agency, asking the booking partner to be contacted for any clarification regarding deductions or processing fees.
Khera further remarked, “That explains his presence in Assam today - and also his continued absence from Manipur, despite it being in turmoil.” Taking a dig at the Centre, he wrote, “PM CARES”? Sorry folks, evidently not.”
His comments came as Prime Minister Modi addressed a rally in Guwahati, marking his first visit to the Northeast after the presentation of the Union Budget.

At the rally, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of having sidelined the region during its years in power and asserted that the current dispensation treats the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi”.
“The Northeast, which was neglected by Congress, is our priority and we are devoted to its development. For us, the Northeast is our Ashtalakshmi. We have given strong focus to the Northeast to make it economically independent,” he said.
Referring to infrastructure expansion, Modi said that earlier the region was associated with weak connectivity but that the situation had changed significantly.
“And today, such highways are being built here where not only vehicles run, but even aircraft can land. This is a moment of pride. This is the changing spirit of Assam,” he stated.
In a sharp attack on the opposition, the Prime Minister alleged, “Congress even refuses to consider India as a nation. Those who do not show even the slightest respect towards Mother India can never work for the country's welfare.”
He also underlined his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s grassroots cadre. “I say with pride that the greatest honour of my life is that Narendra Modi is a karyakarta of BJP. As a BJP worker, I bow my head and pay my respects to the strength of our karyakartas and the organisation in Assam,” he said.
Marking the anniversary of the Pulwama terror attack, the Prime Minister paid homage to the security personnel who lost their lives. “Today is the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. I bow to the brave sons of Mother India who lost their lives in this attack,” he said, adding that the response to the attack had demonstrated the country’s resolve.
Assam is scheduled to vote in the first half of the year, with political activity intensifying in the state.
