The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday suspended Manoj Kumar Pandey, the chief of its Buxar district unit, citing irregularities at a rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge as part of the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ programme being conducted by the party in the state ahead of the Assembly polls.
"The party has suspended Manoj Kumar Pandey, president of the Buxar District Congress Committee, with immediate effect from all positions, following directions from the national leadership," Bihar Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathore said in a statement.
"This action has been taken due to irregularities, lack of coordination and negligence of duty observed during the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ programme organised in Buxar, addressed by All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge," the statement added.
The action is believed to have come as a result of the low turnout of people seen during Kharge's rally, a development that the party attributed to shortcomings on part of the district president.
Rathore said in his statement that Pandey, as district chief, failed to coordinate with the state leadership during the programme.
