Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday claimed that Army Generals are forced to be government mouthpiece.

"...The most frightening situation is that, for the first time, Army leaders are coming out and saying that they are being pressured to speak in support of the government..." Chowdhury told IANS.

What does BJP say?

BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan condemned her comments, calling them an assault on the dignity of India's armed forces. "These deeply divisive & malicious remarks of Congress MP Smt. Renuka Choudhary demeaning the dignity of our valiant armed forces is most condemnable. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party with their Sena Virodhi mentality have been serial offenders when it comes to abusing our Armed Forces," he said in a post on X.

Kesavan also alleged that in the past Congress leaders have humiliated the Chief of Armed forces with pejoratives like "Sadak Ka Goonda" .

On Monday, the Congress MP  stirred a row  after she arrived in Parliament with a rescued stray in her car, triggering a row andprompting some ruling party members to accuse her of indulging in drama.

Chowdhury said she had picked up the stray earlier in the day and was taking it to a veterinarian. She also claimed that the government does not like animals and questioned the objections raised by the ruling party MPs, saying there was no law against rescuing a stray dog.

"This government does not like animals. Animals don't have a voice. It (dog) was in the car, so what is their problem? It is so small, does it look like it will bite? Those sitting inside Parliament bite, not dogs," she told reporters when asked about the dog in her car. "Which law says that I can't rescue a dog?"

Her actions drew sharp criticism from BJP members. Union minister Ramdas Athawale said, “She is right in saying that people inside Parliament bite and dogs don’t, as it is the opposition members who bite and create disorder and ‘hungama’ inside the House. Her remarks were not in good taste, and she should not have brought the dog to Parliament."
