Troubles have mounted for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) star cricketer Virat Kohli as a complaint has been filed against him by an activist in connection with the stampede at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed the lives of 11 people on June 4.
The complaint was lodged by HM Venkatesh, a resident of Karnataka's Shivamogga district, at Bengaluru's Cubbon Park police station. In his complaint, the activist has held Virat Kohli responsible for the stampede during the celebrations.
In response, the Cubbon Park police said the complaint will be considered under an already registered case and it will be verified during the course of the investigation, ANI reported.
On June 4, 11 people died and over 50 others were injured in the stampede near the cricket stadium when a felicitation ceremony was organised to honour the RCB players after the franchise won their maiden IPL trophy after 18 years.
According to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the venue could not handle the size of the crowd as the stadium's capacity was 35,000 but 2 to 3 lakh people had turned up for the celebrations.
The state government has appointed a one-member inquiry commission led by retired High Court judge Justice John Michael D'Cunha to investigate into the mishap.
