Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Monday, reiterated his strong support for the Waqf Amendment Bill, stating that "every good work faces opposition."
In an exclusive interview with PTI, CM Adityanath underlined that national security and unity take precedence, asserting, "If the nation remains secure, then religion too will be safeguarded."
His remarks come in response to criticism and resistance against the proposed amendments to waqf laws amid ongoing protests by sections of the Muslim community across the country. Adityanath, however, maintained that the legislation is in the nation’s best interest, asserting that national security and unity take precedence over opposition concerns.
Further questioning the efficacy of the Waqf Board, the UP Chief Minister remarked, “To those creating a fuss over this issue, I ask - has the Waqf Board contributed to welfare in any way? Has it even worked for the welfare of Muslims?”.
Accusing the board of serving personal interests and misusing authority to encroach on government properties, Adityanath stressed the need for reform. “Reform is the demand of the times, and every reform faces resistance,” he asserted.
The bill has sparked nationwide debates, with opposition parties and religious groups expressing concerns over its impact on waqf properties and minority rights.
