CM Omar Abdullah claims separatist activity in J&K has decreased since Article 370's abrogation

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, speaking during the ‘Diamond States Summit’ on the ‘News18 India’ television channel, discussed the historic abrogation of Article 370 in the state and said that separatist activity in Jammu and Kashmir has declined since 2019.

The Chief Minister remarked that separatist activity in Jammu and Kashmir has decreased since 2019, adding that it would have been unthinkable in the past for the Mirwaiz to receive CRPF protection.

The Chief Minister mentioned that separatist activity in Jammu and Kashmir has reduced since 2019, resulting in an improved situation. He added that it was earlier unthinkable that Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq would be provided with CRPF cover.

On February 21, the Centre enhanced Farooq’s security after reassessing the increased threat level following his visit to New Delhi.

During his trip, Farooq presented a memorandum to the joint parliamentary committee regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and engaged in discussions with a Kashmiri Pandit group.

According to sources, CRPF personnel trained in close protection were assigned to him.

Abrogation Of Article 370

Union Government on August 5, 2019 decided to revoke the provisions of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which had granted Jammu and Kashmir special status.

In the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the government had abolished the special status previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

The government released a Presidential Ordinance that revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status and abolished Article 35A.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha, proposing the division of the state into two Union Territories - Ladakh and Jammu-Kashmir.
