Communal clashes broke in the Mhow town of Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on Sunday after stones were allegedly pelted at a rally celebrating India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory, police officials said. Following stone-pelting and arson between two groups, police used tear gas and lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.
Asheesh Singh, the district collector, informed ToI that everything was under control and that the peace had been restored. "A group of youths were taking out a procession in Mhow market to celebrate Team India's victory over New Zealand on Sunday night," IG-rural Anurag informed TOI.
As they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of individuals allegedly began hurling stones at them, prompting them to abandon their bikes and flee the spot, locals were cited as saying.
According to authorities, this led to a clash in which both parties attacked one another. The rioting began near the Jama Masjid and extended to Rajesh Mohalla, Market Chowk, Manek Chowk, and Sewa Marg. "Two vehicles were burned.
The number of injuries is unknown, but the conflict was quickly brought under control by a significant troop commitment. The IG stated, "More forces have been called in."
Asheesh Singh has appealed to everyone to keep patience and assured that strict action will be taken against the accused. "Peace has been established here; there is no problem anywhere. Therefore, I appeal to everyone to keep patience. Do not pay attention to any fake news, and strict action will be taken against those who are involved in it. Further investigation is being done..."
