Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by court on Saturday in connection with the ongoing liquor scam case.
"In the ongoing liquor scam, we found some role of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, and he was arrested...His five-day police remand was completed today, and we sought 14-day judicial custody from the court, which has been granted. The next date of hearing is September 6...He is not cooperating in the investigation," ED Lawyer Saurabh Pandey said after the order.
Earlier in July, a special court in Ranchi sent him to 14-day judicial custody. Chaitanya was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 18 after a raid at the residence he shares with his father in Bhilai town, located in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
He was produced before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (VI) Damarudhar Chouhan on Tuesday after the completion of his ED custody, according to ED counsel Saurabh Kumar Pande told news agency PTI.
During his custodial remand, Chaitanya was interrogated and confronted with statements and documents during which he conceded at many points. There was not much left for interrogation so the ED requested the court for his judicial custody, he said.
