The incident took place on Saturday, a PTI report said.

Chaos broke out at the Varanasi Airport after a flyer aboard an IndiGo flight claimed that he was carrying a bomb. As per the PTI report, the man, who is said to be from Canada, has been detained for further questioning.

After the bomb threat, the plane was moved to an isolated spot at the airport and was thoroughly searched by the officials and ground staff. Once the stringent inspection was complete, the flight was given the clearance by the Air Traffic Control.

The flight made the departure from the airport following the clearance and reached Bengaluru in morning on Sunday. The PTI report further added that the security agencies are probing the matter.

This is the second instance of bomb threat in the last 24 hours. Earlier in the day, a bomb threat was mailed to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, news agency ANI reported on Sunday.

Following the mail, security agencies and airport staff launched a full-scale inspection that include dog squad also. However, no explosive was found at the airport and the officials confirmed it to be a hoax.

Security has been tightened across the country at key installations as well as public places following the Pahalgam terror attack.
