Earlier today, the Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking an FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma over the discovery of huge pile of cash at his official residence in Delhi.
The plea seeking FIR against Justice Varma was filed by advocate Mathews J Nedumpara and three others.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan said an in-house inquiry was in progress and there would be several options open to the Chief Justice of India, following the probe’s conclusion.
“Once the in-house inquiry is complete, all sorts of resources are open. If required, the CJI can direct the registration of FIR. Why should we go into this today?” the bench said.
The Supreme Court had constituted a three-member committee earlier this week to investigate into the alleged cash discovery case linked to Delhi High Court Judge.
The alleged discovery was made by firefighters and police personnel after a fire broke out at Justice Varma's official residence in the national capital on March 14.
However, the Justice Varma refused the claims, saying that the cash does not belong to him. He in his response to Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya, said the allegations of cash discovery at his residence clearly appeared to be a conspiracy to frame and malign him.
