Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday signalled a tougher stance against repeated opposition protests in Parliament, declaring that the government will move ahead with passing important bills in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Rijiju accused the Congress and its allies of “wasting Parliament’s time” by staging daily disruptions over a single issue.
One protest, one day, not every day
Without naming specific MPs, Rijiju referred to the opposition’s ongoing protests against the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. “You have raised an issue, do it for one day. What is the point in raising the same issue every day?” he said.
He added that the government was open to discussions on key legislation but was unwilling to let parliamentary business grind to a halt repeatedly.
Bills waiting for passage
The minister listed several legislations currently pending in Parliament, including:
“These are important bills that affect governance, economy, and public interest. We cannot allow them to remain stuck because of repeated adjournments,” Rijiju said.
Opposition strategy under scrutiny
The Congress-led opposition has been targeting the government over electoral reforms in Bihar, alleging irregularities and calling for accountability. Rijiju, however, accused them of ignoring other matters of public importance.
“Every day, we will not allow the country’s and Parliament’s time to be wasted on one issue,” he said, reiterating that legislative work will continue with or without opposition cooperation.
