India News Live: TMC trade union office 'vandalised' along Nabanna march route

An office of the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC), the trade union wing of the TMC, located in Park Street area in central Kolkata was allegedly vandalised on Saturday during a protest march to West Bengal secretariat 'Nabanna' organised to mark one year of the rape and murder of a woman doctor at state-run RG Kar Hospital.

The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the party's student wing, said in a statement that it, along with INTTUC, will hold a protest in front of the vandalised office located on J L Nehru Road near Park Street crossing on August 10.

Two sisters went missing after being swept away by strong currents of the Subarnarekha river in Odisha's Balasore district on Saturday, police said.

A search has been started for the two girls, who ventured into the river while playing near the Sikharpur Ghat in Jaleswar, they said.

They belong to the nearby Chakahari village.

Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing a retired Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC), citing resentment over the lawyer's handling of his criminal case, officials said on Saturday.

City Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Kumar Singh said that on the morning of August 5, 62-year-old Bhanu Prakash Sarwaria, a resident of Talpura under Nawabad police station, was murdered at his home by an unidentified assailant.

The victim's son-in-law, Sachin Verma, a resident of Awas Vikas, lodged a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Congress leader on Saturday sat a hunger strike here to press for the restoration of the Union territory's statehood.

The strike was launched by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Karra at the party's head office at M A Road here.

Karra and other senior leaders of the party, including AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir and party MLAs, joined the hunger strike.
