India News Live: Dalit woman gang-raped, fiance assaulted in MP's Sidhi district; 3 out of 4 accused held

A 20-year-old Dalit woman, who had gone out with her fiance in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, was allegedly raped by four men who also assaulted her male partner, said a police official on Wednesday.

Four persons were involved in the gang-rape and three of them have been arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arvind Srivastava told PTI.

Five police teams have been deployed to nab the absconding accused, he informed.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has defended the state government’s decision to discontinue Jan Aushadhi Kendras operating within government hospital premises, saying the move is intended to ensure the free and assured supply of essential medicines to patients and to reduce their out-of-pocket expenditure.

Rao’s clarification came in response to concerns raised by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in a recent letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the closure of JAKs within government hospitals in Karnataka.

In a letter addressed to Nadda on August 5, Rao stated that the Karnataka government is committed to the free supply of all essential medicines, as listed in the Essential Medicines List (EML), across government healthcare institutions.

A member of Tillu Tajpuriya gang has been arrested in Delhi's Sarojini Nagar area after a brief exchange of fire, an official said on Wednesday.

According to police, Manjeet alias Dada from Haryana was wanted in a murder case registered against him in Alipur in north Delhi. He sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the shootout and is currently undergoing treatment, police said.

On Tuesday, the accused was arrested for killing Karan Thapa, a known associate of the rival Gogi gang, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants riding motorcycles in the Nehru Enclave area of Alipur on March 28. He was rushed to Harishchandra Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, a senior police officer said.

India News Live: Police constable killed, 3 others injured in collision between car, SUV in Varanasi

A police constable was killed and three others, including a sub-inspector and his wife, were injured in a head-on collision between their car and an SUV here on Wednesday, officials said.

The accident occurred on Ring Road of the Chaubepur area when Bhupauli outpost in-charge Amit Singh, posted in Chandauli district, was en route to Varanasi with his wife, constable Veer Bahadur Singh and a local, Sonu Pandey, resident of Kaily village.

Their car collided with an overspeeding SUV coming from the opposite direction, Chaubepur Station House Officer (SHO) Ravikant Malik said.
