India's April-January finished steel imports touch record high

India's finished steel imports rose to an all-time high in the first 10 months of the financial year that started in April, according to provisional government data reviewed by Reuters on Thursday.

India, the world's second-biggest crude steel producer, imported 8.3 million metric tons of finished steel during April-January, up 20.3% from a year earlier, the data showed.

India remained a net importer during the period, the data showed. India turned net importer of steel in the 2023/24 fiscal year, with imports rising steadily since then and primarily led by China.

At least four dead after suspected gas blast at Taiwan mall

A suspected gas explosion at a department store in the central Taiwanese city of Taichung killed at least four people and injured 24 others on Thursday, the fire department said.

The blast occurred on the 12th floor of the building, where construction was taking place, with damage starting from the 9th floor, the department said in a statement.

More than 40% of Indians feel Trump will be favourable to India, survey shows

More than 40% of Indians polled in a survey by India Today magazine think U.S. President Donald Trump's second term will be favourable to their country, in findings published a day before Trump meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington.

Trump also enjoys a positive image among most supporters of Modi and his party, the "Mood of the Nation" survey showed, and only 16% of those polled felt he would be bad or disastrous for India. The balance of those surveyed saw Trump as having no impact on the country either way.

The findings were published late on Wednesday, hours before Trump said he would impose reciprocal tariffs on every country that charges duties on U.S. imports, and a day before Modi is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House.

3 dead, 2 injured as bus returning from Maha Kumbh rams into truck in Rajasthan

A bus carrying 57 Maha Kumbh pilgrims rammed into a truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway here, killing three people and injuring two on Thursday, police said.

The pilgrims were returning to Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur after attending the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Paryagraj.  The incident happened at around 6.30 am when the bus rammed into a truck which was parked on the side of the road near Karodia village in Kota district, Assistant Sub-Inspector Hariraj Singh said.

MP native Kishorilal (60), his wife Kailashibai (54) and Ashok died on the spot while Chamanlal and Parvati sustained injuries, he said, adding that other passengers were safe.
