The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted sharply on Sunday to Arvind Kejriwal's decision to resign as Delhi Chief Minister in two days, saying that he should have stepped down long back. The party asked why the leader is taking two days and not resigning today.
BJP National Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa responded to Kejriwal's announcement that Manish Sisodia would not be named as the next Delhi Chief Minister and that the new CM's name would be announced in two days. Sirsa claimed that Kejriwal is not doing a favor for the people of Delhi by stepping down, but is actually attempting to make his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, the new Chief Minister.
The BJP, as quoted by media, has claimed that the Supreme Court indirectly compelled Kejriwal to resign, acknowledging his corruption.
Regarding Kejriwal's request to hold the Delhi elections alongside the Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP leader Kapil Mishra said, "Regardless of any upcoming elections, Kejriwal will not become Chief Minister again."
In a major announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal offered his resignation on Sunday and requested a fresh mandate from the people of Delhi. Addressing his party workers, he stated that he would not resume the chief minister's position unless he receives a new mandate from the electorate.
