The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released its first list of 47 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Kerala, with seven women featuring among the nominees.
Among some notable names in this list was Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who has been fielded from the Nemom Assembly seat, former union minister V Muraleedharan from Kazhakoottam and George Kurian, fielded from Kanjirappally.
Chandrasekhar will contest from Nemom, key seat in the southern state.
The candidates announced cover constituencies across the state, including Manjeshwar, Udma, Kannur, Vadakara, Kozhikode North, Palakkad, Thrissur, Pala, Haripad, Thiruvalla, Attingal, Kazhakkoottam and Kattakkada, among others
The announcement marks the BJP’s first tranche of candidates as it gears up for the Kerala Assembly polls, where the contest has traditionally been between the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front and the Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front.
