Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched projects worth Rs 36,000 crore and inaugurated the terminal building of Purnea Airport.
He was accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, and Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary.
The PM officially launched the National Makhana Board, announced earlier in this year’s Union Budget.
Bihar produces nearly 90% of India’s makhana (foxnut), with Purnea and nearby districts serving as major production hubs.
A senior Bihar government official added that the Board will significantly boost makhana production and position Bihar on the global map for the superfood.
PM also laid the foundation stone for a 3x800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. It is Bihar’s largest private sector investment, estimated at Rs 25,000 crore.
The plant will use ultra-supercritical, low-emission technology, enhancing the state's energy infrastructure.
Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, worth over Rs 2,680 crore.
