The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025 on Friday, signalling a united front ahead of the high-stakes polls. Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan expressed confidence in the coalition’s prospects, saying Bihar is ready for another NDA government.
“We, the NDA family, have completed the seat-sharing for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 in a cordial environment. Bihar is ready — once again an NDA government, this time with full strength alongside #BiharFirstBihariFirst!” Paswan posted on X, sharing details of the final agreement.
According to the deal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] will contest 101 seats each, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has been allotted 29 seats. The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will field candidates in six constituencies each.
Chirag Paswan denies demanding 40 seats
Paswan’s post came days after media reports suggested that he was pressing for 40 seats for his party. Dismissing these claims, he clarified that discussions within the NDA were taking place in a “positive manner.”
“The talks are going in a positive manner and are in their end stage now. We want to hold discussions on all minute issues, seats, candidates, and campaigning,” he had said on October 10.
Earlier this week, Paswan convened an emergency meeting of LJP (Ram Vilas) leaders at the party’s Patna office to discuss election strategies, seat distribution, and candidate selection. “A meeting has been called by the party’s in-charge, who has also been given the responsibility of the election in-charge. In the coming days, discussions will be held regarding election strategies, seats, and candidates,” he said.
Paswan added that the party’s state parliamentary board had already submitted its recommendations to the central parliamentary board, which will soon take a final decision.
BJP and JD(U) to contest equal seats for the first time
In a significant political development, the BJP and JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats—101 each—for the first time in Bihar’s electoral history. Traditionally, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) has contested more seats than its ally, resulting in a notable shift in the state’s political balance.
Bihar elections 2025: Schedule and details
The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases—on November 6 and November 11—with the counting of votes set for November 14. The election will test the NDA’s unity and the opposition’s strength in one of India’s most politically crucial states.
