Bengaluru’s pet lovers have ensured the city wears the furry crown of being India’s leading hub for pet travel, contributing 31 percent of all pets flown by Akasa Air, followed by Delhi and Mumbai.
“The most popular routes for pet travel were Bengaluru–Delhi, Delhi–Bengaluru, and Mumbai–Delhi,” Akasa Air said. “Since launching its Pets on Akasa service in November 2022, Akasa Air has flown more than 6,200 pets, reflecting the growing preference among Indian flyers for pet-inclusive travel,” the airline shared.
Of the furry travellers, 66 percent were dogs and 34 percent were cats.

In May 2024, Akasa Air increased the in-cabin pet weight limit to 10 kg (including the container), and extended the validity of its pet travel certificates to 15 days, as against three days previously.
“Customers travelling with their pets on Akasa Air enjoy a range of complimentary value-added services, including a pre-booked window seat and Akasa Priority, which offers priority check-in, boarding, and baggage services,” the airline said.
Akasa Air has also partnered with Umeed for Animals Foundation, a Gurugram-based non-profit dedicated to animal rescue and rehabilitation. “Akasa Air’s Pets on Akasa service has received an overwhelmingly positive response from pet parents, solidifying its reputation as a trusted choice for safe and comfortable pet travel. This success stems from the airline’s customer-focused approach and its adaptability to evolving passenger needs,” said a spokesperson.
Pets on Akasa allows customers to travel with their pets in the cabin or transport them as cargo, depending on their weight.
