Mamata Banerjee pinned responsibility for the violence in Murshidabad on the Centre

After Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that her state shares a border with Sri Lanka, the BJP said that the “geography expert" Chief Minister has “redrawn South Asia".

While addressing a gathering of Imams in the aftermath of violence in Murshidabad during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act,  Banerjee alleged a "sinister plan " was executed to fuel riots in Bengal.  "Bengal is the border of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.," she claimed .

West Bengal  shares borders with Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Sri Lanka is over 2,300 km away from the state.

State BJP chief Majumdar posted on X, "According to geography expert & Failed West Bengal CM @MamataOfficial, the state now shares a border with Sri Lanka! Move over, maps - Didi's imagination has redrawn South Asia!"

At least three people were killed in the clashes in Murshidabad and over 138 have been arrested in connection with the violence, PTI reported.

Banerjee also blamed the Centre and the BSF for the Murshidabad violence. "I saw a report that the Home Ministry said Bangladesh is involved in this (Murshidabad violence). If this is true, the Centre is responsible. BSF takes care of the border. Why did BSF not avert such a crisis?" she said.

A report by ANI stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been informed of an initial investigation into the violent clashes that erupted in Murshidabad district, which reportedly suggests the involvement of alleged Bangladeshi miscreants.

The Trinamool chief also accused the BJP of using the Waqf Act to divide communities and urged Muslim leaders to "protest peacefully" and "not fall into the BJP's trap".

She also denied the claims that Trinamool workers incited the violence, saying, "If we were involved, our houses wouldn’t have been attacked".
