BJP candidate from Delhi's Kalkaji, Ramesh Bidhuri, on Wednesday, sparked another row after he said that Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is roaming the city "like a hirni (deer)".
"Dilli ki janta nark bhog rahi hai galiyon mei... galiyon ki halat dekhiye... Kabhi Atishi nahi gayi milne logon se. Lekin ab chunaav ke samay jaise jungle mei hirni bhaagti hai vaise Atishi Dilli ki sadko pr hirni jaise ghoom rahi hain (Due to the poor conditions of the streets, the people of Delhi are suffering... look at the condition of the streets... Atishi never went to meet the people, but now during the elections, she is roaming the streets of Delhi like a deer running in the jungle),” said Bhiduri while addressing a poll rally in the national capital.
The AAP has not yet responded to Bidhuri's remark.
Atishi, who succeeded Arvind Kejriwal to the top post after he was forced to stand down last year over involvement in an alleged corruption scam, will contest the February 5 poll from Delhi's Kalkaji.
On January 6, addressing a public gathering in the national capital, Bidhuri said, "Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father."
"This Marlena (Atishi) became Singh. She changed her name. Arvind Kejriwal swore on his children not to align with the corrupt Congress. Marlena changed her father. This reflects the character of the Aam Aadmi Party," Bidhuri said.
In response to this remark, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said BJP leaders had "crossed all limits".
"BJP leaders have crossed all limits of shamelessness. BJP leaders are abusing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi ji. The people of Delhi will not tolerate the insult of a woman Chief Minister. All the women of Delhi will take revenge for this," Kejriwal said in a post pn X.
