March 25, 2026· 21:32 IST

As campaigning for the high-stakes elections in four states -- West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam -- enters a definitive stage, all eyes will be on an opinion poll conducted by Vote Vibe. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking a third term in the northeastern state of Assam, whereas in Bengal it has emerged as the main challenger. In Tamil Nadu, the saffron party is hoping to better its performance from the 2021 tally of four. The party will be fighting the polls in alliance with the regional heavyweight AIADMK. The other national party -- Congress is appearing to be a fringe player in two states -- West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, whereas in Kerala and Assam, it is the main challenger to the incumbent. Assembly elections 2026 Opinion Poll live: Tamil Nadu poll crucial for DMK succession battle, anti-incumbency may weigh on Stalin, says Nalin Mehta

Nalin Mehta, Managing Director, Moneycontrol: This election is as important for the battle of succession in DMK as it is for the future of Tamil Nadu. There is a lot of family dynamics at play. For Stalin, this is a very important election. It also has huge implications for the balance of power in the Opposition alliance. It looks like there is no clear momentum for the incumbent. This is much more about traditional election and the old contours of Tamil Nadu politics have not changed and the real big factor, anti-incumbency, seems to be catching up.

Assembly elections 2026 Opinion Poll live: SIR ‘non-issue’ may help Mamata in pockets, but development concerns stand out, says Nalin Mehta

Nalin Mehta, Managing Editor, Moneycontrol: "I’m not surprised that SIR hasn’t emerged as a major issue. We saw a similar pattern in Bihar, where the Congress tried to make it a big issue, but it didn’t resonate much on the ground.  In that sense, it does not matter. It may actually help Mamata Banerjee in some pockets. What is surprising, however, is the issue around 'lack of development’ as a concern because West Bengal has seen relatively slow development over the past 10-15 years."

Assembly elections 2026 Opinion Poll live: 'Unemployment remains central issue in West Bengal, tied lack of development', says Amitabh Tiwari

Amitabh Tiwari, Analyst, tells CNN-News18: “Unemployment remains a central issue, closely tied to the broader narrative of lack of development. The BJP has also highlighted this through its ‘Swarnim Bengal’ campaign, arguing that West Bengal has fallen behind its earlier position as a leading state.

On SIR, it’s important to note that most voters have already gone through the exercise. Only about 60 lakh people have been flagged under the ‘logical discrepancy’ category. For those already on the voter list, SIR is unlikely to be a major concern. The roughly 6% who see it as an issue are largely those affected by these discrepancies. Notably, concern is higher among minority communities, at around 10%.”
