FIRs Lodged Against Organiser & Manager in Zubeen Garg Case; CID to Take Over

The Assam government will conduct a thorough investigation into the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday. He said the probe will cover everyone who was present with the singer, including the organisers of the event he attended before his death.

An FIR has been lodged at Morigaon police station against Shyamkanu Mahanta, organiser of the North East India Festival, and Siddhartha Sharma, Garg’s manager.

“Assam Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death. Both Mahanta and Sharma, as well as others who were with him during his final hours, will be questioned,” Sarma told reporters.

Taking to X, the Chief Minister said all FIRs related to the case would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and a consolidated case would be registered.

“Multiple FIRs have been filed against Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and Shri Sidharth Sarma in connection with the unfortunate and untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. I have directed @DGPAssamPolice to transfer all FIRs to the CID for a thorough investigation,” he posted on X.

Since Garg died in Singapore during a scuba diving session, Sarma confirmed that the state government has contacted the Singapore High Commissioner and requested a detailed inquiry.

“Singaporean authorities have begun their investigation. As the incident occurred outside India, any criminal findings there will be shared with us. If it turns out he was taken from Assam with wrongful intent, we will look into that separately,” the CM said.

He assured that the state government would examine all aspects surrounding the death impartially. “All arrangements will be made for anyone who wants to come forward with information or act as a witness,” he added.

Zubeen Garg, 51, passed away on September 19 in Singapore due to complications arising during a scuba diving session. His sudden demise has triggered widespread mourning across Assam and the country, with fans and fellow artists expressing their shock and sorrow over the loss of the iconic musician.
