Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday brushed aside intelligence inputs of a potential threat to his life from pro-Khalistan elements and expressed faith in God to protect him.
"Upar wala bachayega (God will protect me)," Arvind Kejriwal told reporters in New Delhi ahead of filing his nomination for the Delhi Assembly elections.
Reports suggest that intelligence agencies have flagged the possibility of an attack on the AAP supremo ahead of the Delhi elections. Intelligence agencies have reportedly shared specific inputs with the Delhi Police regarding the perceived threat.
Arvind Kejriwal currently has a Z-category security cover which provides the highest level of protection to prominent figures. The security detail entails 36 trained commandos from the CRPF along with an escort vehicle. A batch of 10-12 trained commandos work in different shifts to guard the protectee round-the-clock, while around 10 commandos are deployed at his residence.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is the AAP candidate from the New Delhi seat, is scheduled to file his nomination for the coming election today. Kejriwal faces Parvesh Verma of the BJP and Sandeep Dikshit of the Congress in the constituency.
Earlier today, The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has authorised the Enforcement Directorate to initiate prosecution against Kejriwal in the liquor policy case. As per media reports, the sanction order against Kejriwal was received earlier this month. Kejriwal is currently out on bail in the case linked to charges of money laundering.
