A jawan was killed during gunfight with Pakistani infiltrators as the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The infiltration bid was foiled in the Churunda area of Uri.

In what is the first major provocation by Pakistan since Operation Sindoor,  Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar was killed in action while "performing operational duty", Chinar Corps said.

Indian Army officials said that they had killed two terrorists in the same area a few days ago and search operations are still going on in the area.

“Chinar Corps deeply regrets the loss of precious life of Braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, while performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family,” the Army posted on X.

NDTV reported Army sources as saying that Pak infiltrators tried to sneak into India late on August 12 and the intruders received support in the form of backing fire from the Pakistan Army.

The sources added that such infiltration attempts are typically carried out with the support of Pakistan's Border Action Teams (BAT).
