In yet another case of political killing in the state, a leader from chief minister Nitish Kumar’s party, Janata Dal (United), was killed in broad daylight in Bihar’s Khagaria on Thursday.

According to an NDTV report, the leader, identified as Rajkishor Nishad, was killed by a group of assailants allegedly using an iron rod.

The incident comes days after the BJP leader Surendra Kewat was shot dead in Sheikhpura town of Bihar. According to reports, the 52-year-old leader was killed by two unidentified assailants and he suffered four bullet injuries.

In a separate incident, the father of a JD(U) block president was found murdered under suspicious circumstances in Rohtas on Thursday. Parasnath Singh, father of Rakesh Kumar alias Bhola, was killed in Amara village, located in the Tilauthu block of Sasaram.

According to local police, Parasnath Singh had built a cowshed in the village two months ago, where he stayed to take care of his cattle and sometimes drove an auto-rickshaw to support his family. In the early hours of Thursday, villagers found Singh murdered inside the cowshed with blood splattered all over the place, according to an IANS report.

In another incident, unidentified assailants opened fire at Patna’s Paras HMRI Hospital on Thursday morning, killing Chandan Mishra, who was out on parole and was undergoing treatment there.

Amid a number of incidents coming to the fore in the state, union minister and NDA ally Chirag Paswan targeted the Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JDU government. In a post on X, Paswan said, “Murders are happening every day. The morale of criminals is sky-high. The strategy of the police and administration is beyond comprehension. The attack inside Paras hospital in Patna’s residential neighbourhood proves that criminals are openly challenging the law and administration.”

He further stated that the rising cases of crime are particularly worrisome given that Assembly polls are due to be held in the state soon.

“Hopefully, the administration will soon take firm steps to bring the law and order system back on track,” he said.
