Amritsar: 5 injured after man wielding rod attacks devotees in Golden Temple

A Sikh youth from Bathinda is said to be in serious condition and is undergoing treatment

Five devotees were injured on Friday when an unidentified person, wielding a rod, allegedly carried out an attack on the premises of Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, according to an Indian Express report.

The report further revealed that a Sikh youth from Bathinda is said to be in serious condition and is undergoing treatment in the emergency wing of the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Amritsar.

The accused and his aide (who accompanied him to the Golden Temple) have been nabbed by the police. However, their identities have not yet been revealed.

“The second accused allegedly conducted recce along with the one who attacked devotees,” a police officer was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

According to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), which oversees the Sikh worship place, the accused unexpectedly used a rod to assault devotees.
