Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reacted to the Delhi Assembly election results, as EC trends pointed to a decisive BJP victory. Attacking Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal over the mandate, Shah said that the people of Delhi have shown that the public cannot be misled by repeated false promises.
“The public has responded to the dirty Yamuna, dirty drinking water, broken roads, overflowing sewers and liquor shops open in every street with their votes,” Shah said in a post on X. He also stated that Delhi “will now become an ideal capital” under the leadership of PM Modi.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the verdict indicates the faith in the leadership of PM Modi. “The people of this country have faith in Modiji's credibility and the politics of good governance and development of the BJP,” he said.
“After this victory, the double engine government will give a new impetus to the development of Delhi,” Singh stated.
Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Kejriwal’s personal standing had eroded locally. “The movement that stood against corruption became the most corrupt outfit itself. The people of Delhi deserved better. The resolve of Viksit Bharat will be implemented in Delhi also. In the coming three years, Yamuna Bank would be transformed into something like Sabarmati Riverfront,” he said.
Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma congratulated PM Modi, Union Home Minister Shah, and the other senior leaders for the mandate. “People have faith in PM Narendra Modi and trust that double engine government will ensure development in Delhi,” he said.
According to the latest data by the EC, BJP has won 8 seats and is leading on 40 of them, while the AAP is ahead on 13 and has bagged 9 seats.
Election to the 70-member Delhi Assembly took place in a single phase on February 5.
