The Opposition demonstrated more resolve than ever and vowed to corner the government on various issues, as the Centre convened an all-party meeting, just a day ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament. The government sought cooperation from opposition parties for the smooth conduct of the House.
Talking to reporters, Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said he raised the alleged "poll scam" of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and US President Donald Trump's claim that he brokered 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan, at the meet. Responding to a question, he said INDIA bloc is only for Lok Sabha polls and AAP is contesting assembly polls on its own.
Hitting back at the Congress for spreading lies about PM Narendra Modi's participation in all-party meetings, BJP leader Amit Malviya said: "Congress once again stands exposed — lying blatantly about the Prime Minister’s participation in All Party Meetings. Let’s look at the facts: During the UPA regime, not a single All Party Floor Leaders meeting for Parliament’s smooth functioning was attended by the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi."
"The first such meeting was held on 13th August 2013, chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath. Subsequent meetings (Dec 2013 & Feb 2014) were also presided over by Ministers — never by the Prime Minister.Compare that to the NDA government, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself began attending All Party Leaders meetings from July 2014, setting a new standard of accountability and dialogue," posted Malviya.
Leaders of various political parties are attending the meeting chaired by Union minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha J P Nadda. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and his junior minister Arjun Ram Meghwal are also representing the government.
Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh of the Congress, Supriya Sule of NCP-Sharad Pawar, DMK's T R Baalu and RPI (A) leader and Union minister Ramdas Athawale were amongst those who are attending the meeting.
INDIA bloc parties have resolved to raise during the Parliament's Monsoon session the issues of Pahalgam attack terrorists not being brought to justice, US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a 'ceasefire' during India-Pakistan hostilities and the SIR in Bihar that the opposition alleges "threatens people's voting rights".
The upcoming Monsoon session will be the first Parliament session following Operation Sindoor, which was launched by India on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.
