An Air India flight from San Francisco to Delhi was diverted to Mongolia on Saturday after the crew detected a possible technical issue mid-air, the airline confirmed.
“AI174 of 02 November, operating from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata, made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after the flight crew suspected a technical issue en route,” an Air India spokesperson said.
The aircraft landed safely at Ulaanbaatar’s Chinggis Khaan International Airport, where it is currently undergoing detailed technical checks. Air India said it was coordinating with local authorities and ground partners to assist stranded passengers.
“We are working closely with our partners to support all passengers while we make efforts to get everyone on their way to the destination at the earliest opportunity. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the unforeseen situation. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority,” the spokesperson added.
The airline has not yet disclosed how many passengers were on board the Boeing aircraft. Arrangements for onward travel are reportedly being made as engineers assess the issue.
