PM Narendra Modi on Thursday embarked on a two-day visit to Japan to attend the 15th Annual Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
During the visit, Modi said the focus would be on shaping the next phase of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has seen steady progress over the past eleven years. He added that India and Japan would work to expand economic and investment ties, scale up collaboration in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors, and further strengthen civilizational and cultural bonds between the two nations.

Following his engagements in Japan, the Prime Minister will travel to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. Highlighting India’s active role in the grouping, Modi noted that under India’s presidency, the SCO had seen new initiatives in innovation, health, and cultural exchanges.
He said India remains committed to working with SCO members to address shared challenges and deepen regional cooperation. Modi also expressed his intention to hold meetings with President Xi Jinping, President Vladimir Putin, and other leaders on the sidelines of the Summit.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that his visits to Japan and China would advance India’s national interests while contributing to regional and global peace, security, and sustainable development.
