Active Covid-19 cases in India breach 6,000 mark, deaths climb to 65

Reports have attributed the rise in cases to the new JN.1 variant. Meanwhile the NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 mutations are also known to be major contributors, even though they result in mild symptoms.

Covid-19 cases in India have crossed the 6000-mark

Active Covid-19 cases in India saw a jump of 400 new cases and breached the 6,000-mark on Sunday. Meanwhile, the total Covid-19-related deaths have now jumped to 65, reports have said. Right now, the total number of active Covid-19 cases is 6,133, with Kerala being the worst-hit as it becomes the only state with about 2,000 cases alone.

Kerala saw a rise in Covid-19 cases after reporting 144 cases in the last 24 hours. Gujarat saw a steep rise in the Covid-19 cases as it followed Kerala in the line of most case load. Gujarat saw 105 new Covid-19 cases between June 7 and June 8 and now has over 820 active cases.

Reports have attributed the rise in cases to the new JN.1 variant. Meanwhile the NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 mutations are also known to be major contributors, even though they result in mild symptoms.

West Bengal reported 71 new Covid-19 cases, taking the caseload in the state to 693. Delhi saw 21 new cases and the active caseload reached 686. Karnataka, on the other hand, reported 75 new cases and now has a total active caseload of 366. Currently, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are the only Indian states to be unaffected by Covid-19 cases.

Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu reported new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the toll to 65 from 55, that it was on June 6.
