Prahalad, a five-year-old boy, who fell into a borewell in Paraliya village under Dug police station limits in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, was found dead early Monday morning after a 16-hour-long rescue operation.
The child, son of Kalulal Bagariya, accidentally slipped into the 12-inch-wide borewell around 1.15 pm on Sunday while his parents were working in the field. He was trapped at a depth of 32 feet, and his voice was heard for some time after the fall.
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) worked through the night to bring the boy out.
The boy was being provided oxygen through a pipe in the borewell, while medical assistance was on standby. However, despite all efforts, he could not survive.
The deceased's body was pulled out around 4 am using a locally improvised hook device. Local SDM confirmed his death, and a medical team at the site pronounced him dead after examination.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jaiprakash Atal said that the post-mortem examination was underway.
The 200-foot-deep borewell was drilled two days earlier. It was later filled after failing to yield water.
The child fell while sitting on a stone slab covering the open end after it collapsed.
The boy's parents have submitted an accidental report, and police will register a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
