Air India Express Crash IX 1344 highlights: Rescue operations at site completed, says Hardeep Singh Puri

Capt Deepak Sathe, pilot of the Air India Express flight who died after the plane crashed at Kerala's Kozhikode airport on Friday, was an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) here.

Sixteen people were killed and several injured when a Dubai-Calicut Air India Express flight with 191 passengers and crew on board overshot the runway and fell into a valley, breaking into two portions, on Friday evening.

"Capt Deepak V Sathe was from 58th course of National Defence Academy, Pune. He was from Juliet Squadron," said Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (Retd).

"Sathe passed out from Air Force Academy with Sword of Honour in June 1981 and was a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force," he added.

Sathe was also an excellent squash player, he reminisced. (PTI)

Two investigation teams of professionals from Air India, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and AAIBwill leave for Kozhikode at 02.00 hrs & 05.00 hrs. Everyone has now been rescued from the aircraft. Rescue operations are now complete.Injured being treated at various city hospitals.

The crash of Air India Express flight IX 1344 has again brought theDGCA under the scanner.

The industry regulator, aviation expertssay, has been guilty of addressing the symptom, but not the cause.

Update on Kozhikode crash.Evacuation completed. Malappuram collector has informed that the rescue operations at the site have been completed.Air india flight AXB1344 (DXB to CCJ) had 190 passengers. They all have been transferred to hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode.

An Air India Express plane from Dubai to Kozhikode skidded off the runway during landing at the Karipur Airport in Kerala on August 7.

A Vande Bharat Mission flight, it had 190 people onboard -- 184 passengers, two pilots and four cabin crew members. Sources told Moneycontrol that both pilots -- the captain as well as the first officer --have died in the crash. Fourteen people are dead and over 130 injured in the crash, Malappuram Superintendent of Police told news agency ANI.

The ill-fated Air India Express flight IX1344 had landed at the Kozhikode airport in its second attempt, data from aviation site Flighradar24 shows.

"It landed on the second attempt. The pilots dida go-around (aborted landing) and came back for a second landing," a senior executive from the industry said, citing the following picture from Flightradar24.
