Indian teenagers can now independently create their own Uber accounts through a new self-onboarding system announced by the ride-hailing company on Tuesday. The feature allows young users to link their profiles directly while maintaining parental oversight and control.
The feature forms part of Uber's expanded Teens and Family platform, designed to accommodate diverse household needs across different age groups. Teenagers registering through the system will operate under guardian supervision, with parents maintaining complete visibility over their children's travel activities.
Uber has simultaneously extended its premium membership benefits to teenage users. When guardians hold active Uber One subscriptions, linked teen accounts automatically receive identical perks, with cashback rewards pooling into a centralized family hub. This structure encourages household-wide platform adoption while maximizing savings for subscribed members.
The company acknowledges teenagers' technological fluency and their role as early adopters within family units. By facilitating supervised account creation, Uber aims to cultivate responsible transportation habits among young users while recognizing their growing autonomy.
Additional family-focused improvements include eliminating shared payment requirements for Family profiles. Households can now add multiple members without maintaining joint credit cards, with each user applying their preferred payment method, including cash transactions.
The platform has also introduced a Seniors profile featuring simplified navigation with enlarged text, reduced buttons, and streamlined interfaces. Guardians can coordinate rides, manage destinations, and monitor trips for elderly relatives through this accessibility-focused option.
