Ian Bremmer of Eurasia Group believes the year 2025 will see the world 'get worse geopolitically', and the idea of a global order based on the rule of law is going to be challenged.
Ian Bremmer agreed to the view that this is the 'end of the post-cold war era', and the world is currently in the G-Zero phase. The G-Zero world is one where no one power or group of powers is either willing and able to drive a single global agenda or maintain international order.
"The risk of a generational world crisis, even a new global war, is higher than at any point in our lifetimes," Ian Bremmer had recently said in his 2025 Top Risks Report.
In conversation with CNBC-TV18 on the sidelines of Davos 2025 Summit, Bremmer said Trump is expected to get his way with other countries, partially because a lot other nations have a limited fiscal space, or there is indebtedness. Bremmer added that during this Presidency, Donald Trump will act like the ultimate predator, forcing his way with other nations.
Donald Trump's is starting off his Presidency in a much 'stronger position, and has more legitimacy' than his first term, said Bremmer.

The rhetoric around tariffs on China is an 'opening salvo' that is meant for creating a lot of awe, said Bremmer, who expects a lot of American allies to be agreeable to Donald Trump. "A lot of people will do what Zuckerberg did, which is change the business model, and people around him. That is what we can expect to see from a lot of American allies too," said Bremmer.
He also credited Trump for effecting the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which he says would not have happened had Kamala Harris been the US President. Trump was able to force a deal on both sides as he seemed 'more credible', so as to show that he got this done, Bremmer said. However, this does not mean that the world is closer to the end of the conflict, he added.

Eurasia Group's founder also said that both Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are 'getting ready for a fight', as people who have Trump's ears are currently in the White House, and are much more hawkish on taxes. "There may be announcements of additional tariffs on China. This will be tough environment from China to navigate," said Bremmer.
On India, Bremmer said it will be important to see how the country navigates the unfolding US-China relations, which may get worse. "India wants to balance, but it is becoming harder to that, though not impossible," he added.
