Tata steel says nine individuals injured due to accident at Kalinanagar steel plant, flags no impact to production

The incident occured at the steel smelting shop of the integrated steel plant at around 11:30 am, the company said without mentioning the specifics of the incident.

Nine workers were injured in an accident at Tata Steel's Kalinanagar steel plant on March 21, the steel maker said in a statement adding that the incident site has been barricaded and internal investigation is underway.

"We are taking all necessary steps to address the situation. There is no impact on the production," the steelmaker said.  The incident occured at the steel smelting shop of the integrated steel plant at around 11:30 am,  the company said without mentioning the specifics of the incident.

Meanwhile, media reported that an explosion occurred at the melting shop.

"Nine individuals were injured in the incident and were immediately taken to Tata Steel Medica Hospital for medical attention and one of them has already been discharged from the hospital after first aid. The medical team is currently attending to the injured and has confirmed that everyone is now out of danger.," Tata Steel said.

Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK)  plant manufactures high-end flat products. It was commissioned in 2016 with the current capacity of 3-million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
