Tata Group has made safety a "top priority" across its companies and has set up a dedicated panel comprising CEOs of major group firms to focus on this critical area, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said on Monday.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), Chandrasekaran was responding to a shareholder’s question on the group’s safety measures following the recent Air India crash, and how similar incidents could be prevented across other Tata firms.
“Safety is a very significant focus across the Tata Group. We’ve formed a group with the CEOs of key companies to work on safety, and it is being reviewed in every board,” he said.
Chandrasekaran emphasised that safety has become a top priority at each group company. “For example, at Indian Hotels, we have a Chief Safety Officer. Every company is now focused on this because the Tata Group is expanding—not only are existing companies like IHCL growing, but we’re also adding new firms.”
He added, “We’re building high-end manufacturing capabilities, and with this scale of expansion, we are fully aware of the need to strengthen safety. While several initiatives are underway, we know more needs to be done.”
Tata Group-owned IHCL is India’s largest hospitality company.
