Gaurav Jain, chief business officer of social media platform ShareChat and short video app Moj has quit the company, he said in a LinkedIn post on June 16.
In his three-year stint at the company, he was leading ShareChat’s monetisation efforts across sales, partnerships, marketing, brand solutions, pricing, strategy and customer success.
While he is moving out of the company, this exit comes at a time when ShareChat is in the midst of shifting gears from high cash burn to focus on sustainable growth following two years of monetisation struggles.
Manohar Charan, chief financial officer, ShareChat, who was recently elevated as a co-founder will be taking over the additional charge of working with revenue function focusing on monetisation and to catalyze next phase of growth, a company spokesperson shared.
"He has been working with Gaurav for past few months and will continue to operate in same capacity going forward. We are at an advanced stage of our search for new revenue leader with Manohar leading the Sales org in the interim," the ShareChat spokesperson said.
“The last three years have been some of the most professionally rewarding and demanding of my career—constantly challenging my understanding of users and customers, and pushing me to take tough calls (some right, some wrong). I’m deeply grateful to my incredible team (including those who moved on along the way), our advertisers, agencies, and partners who’ve walked this journey with us,” Jain said in his post.
He thanked co-founder and CEO Ankush Sachdeva for his support. “A special shoutout to Ankush—working with someone so sharp yet grounded will always remain one of the highlights of my time here,” he said.
Jain didn’t disclose his next move but added that he is moving from Bharat to Pan Asian focus. Prior to Joining ShareChat, Jain had led APAC business expansion for Snap, and previously worked with Meta and Google too.
Reacting to this development, the spokesperson added, "Gaurav played a key role in building our Advertising business, grooming the sales org and establishing ShareChat and Moj as go to platforms for brands to connect with Bharat audiences."
"Over the last 2 years, as the company shifted gears and achieved profitability, Gaurav was an integral part of the leadership team that shaped the strategy and executed it. We thank him for his immense contribution to our journey and wish luck for his next stint."
At a company level, ShareChat is currently working on exploring different monetisation models and revenue streams, Sachdeva told Moneycontrol in an interview in May.
In the past two years too, ShareChat had seen several top level exits including co-founders Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Farid Ahsan. Singh and Ahsan quit the firm in October 2023 to start their robotics startup.
Charan has been with the startup for the last five years. Former TikTok executive Nitin Jain was appointed as the CTO in December 2024.
“I think we have a pretty steady leadership team now. There was a time two years ago when there was a lot of flux. But that's sorted now,” Sachdeva had said.
