Electric scooter maker Ather Energy has doubled its market share over the past year, touching nearly 17% in August, cofounder and CEO Tarun Mehta said at the company’s annual Ather Community Day in Bengaluru on August 30.
The startup, which listed on the NSE in May, has also emerged as the No. 1 player across South India and Gujarat.
“Our market share has doubled compared to Q1 last year. Today, we are at almost 17%. We are number one in South India and the largest brand in Gujarat,” Mehta said, adding that Ather’s footprint has expanded to 416 stores and will reach 700 soon.
Mehta's comments on market share come in as the market has been seeing some changes in the market share. As per data from Vahan n the first 27 days of August, Ola Electric sold 13,688 vehicles for a 17.3% market share, holding on to third position. Ather Energy moved up to the second in electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) with a 17.9% share, while TVS Motor led with a 24.8% share.
Alongside its growth update, Ather announced a slate of product and tech launches. Built on 26 lakh km of field data, EL promises faster assembly, lower costs and advanced safety features like electronic braking.
Ather also rolled out it's new moto-scooter concept named 'Project Redux', which comes with features like keyless feature and MorphUI.

Further, Ather showcased its next-gen fast charger, which can add 30 km of real-world range in 10 minutes, and Infinite Cruise, an adaptive cruise control system for Indian roads. Its family scooter Rizta will now feature a touchscreen dashboard, new riding mode and colour options.
The company has grown from 70,000 customers at its first community day to 4.5 lakh owners today, backed by the success of its latest mass-market scooter, the Ather Rizta, which became the fastest EV scooter to reach one lakh deliveries.
Its premium Gold Service Centres, now 14 in number, have delivered faster turnaround times and higher customer satisfaction scores.
In Gujarat, Ather’s market share jumped from 5% to 20% within a year, while in Maharashtra it added 30–40 stores in one quarter.
